Despite substantial advances in surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, mortality rates for this disease remain high [3]. The optimal treatment approach for patients with locally advanced disease remains controversial. Preoperative chemoradiotherapy is established as a standard of care in rectal cancer [4] and has shown promise in the treatment of other gastrointestinal malignancies. Preoperative chemo radiotherapy offers several potential biological and technical advantages when compared with either surgery alone, or with postoperative therapy delivery, including:

The Effect of Neoadjuvant Therapy on Early Complications of Esophageal Cancer Surgery
Introduction: Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment is required in esophageal cancer due to its invasive nature. The aim of this study was to evaluate early post-esophagectomy complications in patients with esophageal cancer who received neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NACR). Materials and Methods: This randomized clinical trial was carried out between 2009 and 2011. Patients with lower-th...

The research is aimed at evaluating Different strategies have been done to treat esophageal cancer by meta-analysis. <str...
متن کاملThe Effect Of P53 Protein Over-Expression And Its Clinical Features On The Response To Preoperative Chemoradiotherapy Of Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Background and Objective: P53 is a suppressive gene that plays a key role in DNA repair and apoptosis. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of P53 protein over-expression and some clinicopathological factors on the esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. Patients and Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, 44 patients with loc...
متن کاملNeoadjuvant chemoradiation followed by surgery versus surgery alone for patients with adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus (CROSS)
BACKGROUND A surgical resection is currently the preferred treatment for esophageal cancer if the tumor is considered to be resectable without evidence of distant metastases (cT1-3 N0-1 M0). A high percentage of irradical resections is reported in studies using neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery versus surgery alone and in trials in which patients are treated with surgery alone. Impro...
متن کاملDissection axillary lymph node count in patient with breast cancer followed by neoadjuvant therapy
Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common cancer and the second cause of death in women. It is essential to have the highest level of confidence in axillary staging assessment. Many surgeons and pathologists believe that fewer lymph nodes are present in axillary dissection specimens of women treated by neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Consequently, the purpose of this study was to compare the lym...
